Close, Convenient, Affordable Lot Opens Ahead of Peak Summer Travel Season, Adding 1,400 Spaces for Travelers
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport reopened its Express Parking lot Sunday, May 8. Opening the Express Parking lot provides 1,400 additional parking spaces for passengers prior to summer, as air travel continues to rebound. Express Parking was temporarily closed in March 2020 due to the reduction in air travel during the global pandemic.
“The reopening of our Express Parking option will offer added parking capacity for our travelers as we approach the busy summer travel season,” said Ricky Smith, Executive Director for BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. “As passenger traffic grows, we are working with our airport partners to provide a positive travel experience for our customers.”
Express Parking offers an additional option for BWI Marshall customers that is close and convenient to the airport terminal, with frequent shuttle service. The rate for Express Parking is $10 per day. Express Parking operates as a touchless service, with credit card only payments. Customers must use a credit card for entry and exit. No tickets are required or will be issued. The same credit card must be utilized for both entry and exit.
The reopening of Express Parking is another indication of improving passenger traffic for BWI Marshall Airport and for the air travel industry. Passenger traffic at BWI Marshall rebounded strongly in 2021, reaching 18.8 million for the year, an increase of 68% compared to 2020. BWI Marshall remains the busiest airport in the region.
Further growth is expected in 2022, as more international and domestic service resumes and is added. Three new airlines – PLAY, Icelandair and Avelo Airlines – are starting service at BWI Marshall this year. Returning international airlines in 2022 include British Airways, Air Canada and Condor.
