Please allow additional time if using shuttles to travel between the terminal, parking lots and rail station as shuttle delays are possible. Travelers should plan to arrive at the terminal 2 hours before scheduled domestic departure.
We understand the need for some passengers to travel with their animals. To ensure the safety and healthy of all airport guests, we remind passengers of the following rules regarding traveling with animals.
Trained service animals are allowed in the airport at any time. As provided for in the American with Disabilities Act and equivalent Maryland state law, a service animal is a dog (or miniature horse) that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability.
For safety and health reasons, Maryland state law requires non-service animals to be transported in a carrier while inside the main terminal.
At no time should animals accompanying airport passengers be in close proximity of a government working dog or interfere with the government working dog’s task.
For the safety of all airport guests, animals not traveling are not permitted inside the terminal building.
Animals and their owners are subject to warnings, citations or even possible removal from the terminal.
Animal policies vary by airline. Passengers should contact their airline days ahead of travel to confirm animal travel fees, documentation and other airline-specific guidelines. Those receiving a shipped animal should contact their airline for pick-up instructions.
Moving walkways and Escalators are dangerous for animals. To prevent animal injuries, animals should be carried, transported in a carrier or walked on flat surfaces. Use elevators to travel between Upper and Lower Levels.
BWI Marshall Airport provides 4 Animal Relief Areas. Owners are asked to clean up after their animals using the waste disposal bags and receptacles provided. Animals must be leashed when outside of a carrier while using any of the Animal Relief Areas. Seating is available in all Animal Relief Areas.
