The enforcement date for compliance with new federal security standards is May 7, 2025.
On that date, travelers 18 years of age or older will need to present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or ID card, state-issued enhanced driver’s license or another TSA-acceptable form of identification at airport security checkpoints.
Maryland residents can check their REAL ID compliance using the REAL ID Lookup Tool provided by Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA).
Passengers presenting a state-issued identification that is not REAL ID-compliant and who do not have another acceptable alternative (such as a U.S.-issued passport) can expect to face delays, additional screening and the possibility of not being permitted through the security checkpoint. This page of the TSA website provides a list of identification accepted at security checkpoints.
For more REAL ID information, visit the MVA website or TSA website.
