Passenger boarding bridges may be the most overlooked element of the travel experience.
They help passengers transition between aircraft and airport terminal. However, passenger boarding bridges are more than just a walkway. Each passenger boarding bridge also includes baggage chutes, stairs, gate rotunda, air conditioning and ground power units. These bridges offer comfort and convenience to passengers and help airline crews ensure flights depart on time.
17 passenger boarding bridges in Concourses B, D and E at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport will be replaced in late 2026 and throughout 2027.
Phase 1
Duration: September 18, 2026 – December 28, 2026
Impacted Gates: D4, D10, D24, D26, D29
Each gate closure is anticipated to remain in place for approximately 28 calendar dates. During each closure, the passenger boarding bridge will be removed and replaced, with related electrical work, accessory removal/reinstallation, pavement marking, aircraft fit testing, commissioning and training completed for each unit.
Before and during this project, we work with our airline partners to minimize disruption to airline operations and impact to passengers.

Duration: February 1, 2027 – May 4, 2027
Impacted Gates: D11, D13, D15, D20, E4
Phase 3
Duration: June 18, 2027 – October 29, 2027
Impacted Gates: B7, B9, B10, D25, E1, E3, E6
