Please allow additional time if using shuttles to travel between the terminal, parking lots and rail station as shuttle delays are possible. Travelers should plan to arrive at the terminal 2 hours before scheduled domestic departure.
Construction Not Expected to Significantly Affect Airline Operations; Local Residents May Notice Temporary Change in Flight Patterns
Starting October 9, 2019, Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport will temporarily close its Runway 10 and temporarily shorten Runway 28 by about 2,000 feet. The work is necessary to accommodate an airfield construction project and is not expected to significantly affect airline operations.
The preliminary schedule calls for the runway adjustments to take about 30 days. BWI Marshall expects to be at full runway capacity before the peak Thanksgiving holiday travel period. The airfield project includes the rehabilitation of taxilane pavement and construction of a new taxiway connector to the end of Runway 10. As with any airfield construction project, the exact schedule is weather dependent.
Local residents may notice a temporary change in airline flight patterns near BWI Marshall Airport during the construction. Runway 15R-33L, BWI Marshall’s other major commercial runway, will remain open and available.
A recent report revealed that BWI Marshall Airport has a total economic impact of $9.3 billion. BWI Marshall and its visitors generate and support more than 106,000 jobs throughout the region. The airport’s passenger traffic grew to 27.1 million in 2018, the fourth-straight record year. BWI Marshall remains the busiest airport in the region.
