BWI Marshall Airport Safety, Improvement Projects Set for January 25

The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Aviation Administration (MDOT MAA) will host a public workshop to provide information regarding a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Draft U.S. Department of Transportation – Section 4(f) Determination for proposed improvement projects at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.  The public workshop is scheduled for Thursday, January 25 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the assembly room of the MDOT MAA offices located at 991 Corporate Blvd., Linthicum.

The public workshop will provide information regarding proposed improvements at BWI Marshall Airport.  The projects are planned to enhance airfield safety, meet updated Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) design standards, improve customer service, and accommodate demand.  The proposed improvements included in this Draft EA and Draft Section 4(f) Determination will have no effect on airline flight patterns at BWI Marshall Airport.

Representatives from MDOT MAA and its project team will be available to answer questions from the public.  Written comments from the public may be submitted during and after the open house.

MDOT MAA has identified the need for a number of improvement projects at BWI Marshall Airport. The public workshop will enable the MDOT MAA to provide sufficient information to the public and to the FAA to support a formal environmental finding on the projects. The final FAA determination is required before the planned improvement projects can take place.

MDOT MAA held an initial public scoping meeting in August 2016 to provide information about the EA process and the proposed improvement projects. The improvements include, but are not limited to: pavement rehabilitation, aircraft firefighting facility expansion, fire training facility relocation, taxiway construction, obstruction removal, terminal improvements, construction of aircraft maintenance facilities, and vehicle service roadway construction.

The Draft EA and Draft Section 4(f) Determination is available for review on the MDOT MAA website, the MDOT MAA offices in Linthicum, and at local libraries in Linthicum and Glen Burnie.
