BWI Thurgood Marshall Recognized Again in Marketing and Communications Contest
Airport receives 4 awards in annual competition |
BWI AIRPORT, MD (August 23, 2007) - Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport has been recognized by Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) with four awards in the 2007 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest. This annual competition highlights the quality of work, talent, and creativity within the marketing and communications field of the airport industry.
In the past five years, BWI Thurgood Marshall has won 21 awards in the contest, including ten first-place honors. The 2007 competition had almost 300 entries from 73 separate airports.
BWI’s two first-place awards in 2007 recognized the quality of work in the categories of Video Production and Flight Guides. In addition to the first-place honors, BWI Thurgood Marshall took a second-place award in the Newsletter category, and a third-place award in the Marketing Campaign category.
“These awards highlight the creative, professional work done by the marketing and communications teams at BWI Marshall,” said Timothy L. Campbell, A.A.E., Executive Director of the Maryland Aviation Administration. “I am proud that the Airport’s promotional work was again recognized by our aviation industry peers.”
For the first-place Video Production award, BWI Marshall created a video to showcase the Airport’s first-rate parking options. The “Park Happy @ BWI” video was produced for in-terminal viewing on the Airport’s flight information display monitors. The simple, animated, light-hearted video promotes BWI’s close, convenient, and covered parking facilities.
BWI Marshall’s first-place Flight Guides award recognized the Airport’s printed schedule. The flight guide is produced quarterly to inform frequent flyers of flight options available from BWI Marshall. Despite the digital age and the availability of real-time schedule data, frequent business travelers often need pocket guides containing scheduled information and other Airport information.
For the second-place Newsletter award, the Maryland Aviation Administration was recognized for its quarterly e-newsletter that is produced for employees. The internal newsletter provides information, business and employee news, and events across the organization in a friendly format.
The third-place award for Marketing Campaign highlighted BWI’s “Express for Less” promotion, which increased awareness of the Airport’s Express parking lot. BWI Marshall developed a comprehensive campaign to attract customers to the parking facilities. Key to the campaign was a coupon made available for travelers on the BWI website. The Express for Less marketing campaign used radio, on-site and surrounding signage, bus wraps, and additional marketing initiatives to promote the parking and the website coupon.
The 2007 ACI-NA Marketing and Communications Contest is in its 17th year. Airport winners will be recognized at ACI-NA’s Annual Conference and Exhibition to be held in October in Kansas City.
