AirTran Airways to Shift BWI Marshall Airport Operations Overnight

AirTran Operations Move to Terminal A/B Tomorrow

Tomorrow morning, November 16, all operations for AirTran Airways will shift from Concourse D at BWI Marshall to the Terminal A/B facility, home of Southwest Airlines. Southwest formally closed on its acquisition of AirTran in May 2011.

Starting tomorrow, all AirTran passenger services will occur in the A/B facility. Ticketing and baggage check-in for AirTran flights will be located in the Terminal A/B ticket lobby. All AirTran flights will operate from gates on Concourse B. Arriving baggage for AirTran customers will utilize baggage carousel number 6, located on the lower level of the Airport, adjacent to Concourse B.

In order to help accommodate the increased passenger traffic in Terminal A/B, BWI Marshall Airport and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have added a new security checkpoint on the lower level (arrivals level) near Concourse A. The new, four-lane security checkpoint will provide additional screening capacity and access to all Southwest and AirTran gates on Concourses A and B. Additional queuing space has also been added at the existing upper level checkpoints for A and B.

Southwest and AirTran are adding 16 automated ticketing kiosks to help travelers check-in for flights quickly and easily. A third curbside check-in location was added along the upper level terminal roadway at Concourse B.
