Mobile Passport Control Now Available at BWI Marshall Airport

Technology Expedites Arrival Process for Eligible International Travelers

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced today that the Mobile Passport Control app is now available for eligible international travelers arriving at BWI Marshall. Mobile Passport Control is the first authorized app to streamline a traveler’s arrival into the United States.

U.S. citizens and Canadian visitors can use the Mobile Passport Control app to submit their passport information and customs declaration form to CBP via a smartphone or tablet. International travelers using the technology do not have to complete a paper customs declaration.

“Mobile Passport Control will help many of our international travelers speed through the arrivals process,” said Ricky Smith, Chief Executive Officer for BWI Marshall. “We are pleased to partner with CBP to offer this user-friendly technology that will provide an efficient travel experience for our international passengers.”

Using the app, travelers create a profile that includes their passport information. Upon arrival at BWI Marshall, Mobile Passport Control users complete the “New Trip” information, take a self-photo with their mobile device, answer several short customs declaration questions, and submit the information to CBP. An electronic receipt with an encrypted code is presented to a CBP officer for the final inspection process.

Android and iPhone users can download the free Mobile Passport Control app from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. The technology was developed by CBP, Airports Council International-North America, and their technical partners. The app does not require pre-approval and it is free to use.

BWI Marshall continues to set records for passenger traffic. The 2015 year was a new all-time annual record with nearly 24 million passengers. Growing international traffic helped lead the record year with a 32 percent increase. Strong growth has continued in 2016.
