Spirit Airlines announced today that it will offer nonstop service between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and two new markets—Tampa International Airport and Fort Myers Southwest Florida International Airport. The new Spirit service is scheduled to start on November 10, 2016.
“Spirit Airlines continues to grow its ultra-low fare service at BWI Marshall Airport,” said Ricky Smith, Chief Executive Officer for BWI Marshall. “Since first landing at BWI Marshall in 2012, the airline has rapidly added new flight options for customers from throughout the Washington-Baltimore region.”
Tampa and Fort Myers will be the 13th and 14th markets served by Spirit Airlines from BWI Marshall. The airline shifted its regional operation to BWI Marshall in September 2012 with flights to two destinations, Fort Lauderdale and Dallas/Fort Worth. Earlier this year, Spirit added nonstop service between BWI Marshall and three new cities, Orlando, Boston, and Detroit.
Spirit will fly daily roundrtrip flights between BWI Marshall and Tampa and Fort Myers. The airline offers ultra-low base airfares, with a number of optional, fee-based services.
BWI Marshall continues to set records for passenger traffic. 2015 was a new all-time annual record with nearly 24 million passengers. Strong growth has continued in 2016. Ten-straight monthly passenger records have been set at BWI Marshall.
