Spirit Airlines today announced that it will begin offering daily nonstop service between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport on March 27, 2015.
“We welcome the added service from Spirit Airlines,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, Chief Executive Officer for BWI Marshall. “Spirit has added new flights and new markets since launching its service at BWI Marshall in 2012. The airline continues to offer low fares and more travel options for our passengers.”
Houston is the seventh market served by Spirit Airlines from BWI Marshall. The airline shifted its Washington-area operation from Reagan National Airport to BWI Marshall on September 6, 2012 with flights to Fort Lauderdale and Dallas/Fort Worth.
Spirit Airlines will fly one daily roundtrip between BWI Marshall and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The carrier promotes itself as an airline that offers ultra-low base airfares, with a number of optional, fee-based services. Average domestic airfares at BWI Marshall remain well-below the national average, and among the lowest of any major U.S. airport, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
